Traditionally, chemistry deals with the description of our material world by means of analytical or physico-chemical methods and with the synthesis of new compounds. However, chemistry is capable of building functioning systems, which are set in action by sustained reaction networks, and show complexity and emergent phenomena. The study of chemical self-organization is a fascinating scientific challenge.
